Good afternoon, all,
With seasonal changes bringing darker mornings and evenings, we are unfortunately seeing an increase in burglary and theft-from-vehicle offences across the district. I would encourage all residents to remain vigilant, ensure that vehicles are secured and homes are locked when unattended, and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
On 9th October, residents in Gainsborough may have noticed a significant emergency services presence on Vanessa Drive, including the attendance of the Air Ambulance. An elderly lady sadly suffered a medical episode and, despite the best efforts of attending officers and paramedics, she passed away. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Overnight between 11th and 12th October, a burglary occurred on Newark Road, Laughterton. Offenders cut a padlock to gain access to a workshop and stole approximately £9,000 worth of electrical tools.
At approximately 6:00pm on 15th October, police were called to reports of an assault on Trinity Street, Gainsborough, during which a male was stabbed. Thankfully, the victim did not sustain life-threatening injuries. Following police enquiries, a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male have been arrested and released on bail in connection with the incident.
On 16th October, police received a report from a resident on North Street, Caistor, who disturbed individuals attempting to break into their property. The offenders appeared to be targeting vehicles parked on the driveway, and the resident was alerted by their dog barking. Crucially, the resident was able to provide officers with the registration number of the suspect vehicle, which was linked to a vehicle from Skegness.
Colleagues in Skegness quickly established that the vehicle had itself been reported stolen earlier that evening. The vehicle details were circulated to neighbouring forces, and within an hour it was sighted by officers in West Yorkshire. The vehicle failed to stop for police and eventually came to a halt following a collision. Several occupants attempted to flee on foot but were swiftly apprehended with the assistance of police dogs. Three individuals from the Bradford area have since been arrested and released on bail while enquiries continue.
At approximately 9:20am on 17th October, police were alerted by a dog walker who discovered a man in a field opposite Noble Foods with significant neck injuries. The prompt actions of the caller undoubtedly contributed to saving the man’s life. Officers attended immediately and administered life-saving first aid before colleagues from EMAS and the Air Ambulance arrived on scene.
I am immensely proud of the response from officers involved in this incident. Their actions were exemplary and, without their intervention, the injuries sustained could have proved fatal. Police are not seeking anyone else in connection with this matter, and our thoughts remain with the injured man as we wish him a full and speedy recovery.
On 18th October, a burglary was reported on East Lane, Corringham, where offenders gained entry to storage units and stole a quantity of tools. Also on 18th October, a garage was broken into on Southlands Avenue, Morton, and a quantity of tools was stolen.
At approximately 7:00am on 18th October, police received reports of a robbery at a property on Spital Terrace, Gainsborough. The resident reported that between 6:00am and 6:30am their dog began barking persistently. Upon investigating, the occupant encountered two males inside the property. The offenders assaulted the male resident while demanding money and valuables before entering a bedroom and assaulting his partner while making similar demands. Cash and several high-value items were stolen. It is believed the offenders left the area in a vehicle. I would ask any residents living in the vicinity to check CCTV, doorbell cameras or dashcam footage that may assist the investigation. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Officer in Charge at Richard.Charles@lincs.police.uk.
On 19th October, a Woodford FBT311 trailer bearing registration FS25 RMY was stolen overnight from a property on Ferry Road, Fiskerton. During the incident, offenders cut the cables to the property's CCTV system.
As part of ongoing road safety work, speed enforcement checks were conducted on 13th October on Sturton Road, Saxilby. Three vehicles were stopped, with the highest recorded speed being 40mph in a 30mph limit. Further checks were carried out on Stow Park Road, Morton, where four vehicles were stopped, with the highest speed recorded at 37mph in a 30mph limit. Of the seven drivers stopped, two were issued with traffic offence reports, while the remaining five received words of advice regarding their speed and driving behaviour.
In a previous update, I advised that I was exploring the possibility of providing regular "Around the Courts" updates. Unfortunately, this is not currently possible due to difficulties obtaining the necessary information from the courts.
I would like to gauge interest in the Police Cadets scheme. This is something I have actively championed over the past two years, and the initiative has now progressed to a stage where we can begin exploring the establishment of a cadet cohort in Gainsborough. Subject to sufficient interest, the programme is likely to commence next year and would run every Wednesday during school term time between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. The scheme would be open to young people aged 13 to 16 and would provide valuable opportunities to develop confidence, life skills, teamwork and an understanding of policing.
If you know a young person who may be interested, please let us know.
Finally, please continue to encourage family members, friends and neighbours to sign up to Lincs Alert to receive local policing updates and community safety information directly from Lincolnshire Police.
Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe and remain vigilant.
